At Anadolu Medical Center we successfully perform radical surgeries as well as minimally invasive surgical procedures for cancer treatment.
Anadolu Medical Center adopts a multidisciplinary approach in cancer treatment. Regular multidisciplinary patient assessment meetings conducted specifically for cancer patients enables tailoring a treatment plan for every patient’s specific condition.
Anadolu Medical Center performs the following surgical cancer treatments:
At the Department of General Surgery we predominantly focus on surgery of the endocrine system, including thyroid surgery and minimal invasive adrenal surgery for adrenal tumors; gastrointestinal tumors surgery where laparoscopic colon & rectum cancer as well as stomach cancer are commonly treated; and, we focus on cancers of the hepatopancreaticobiliary system (liver, pancreas and biliary system). Besides the standard surgeries we offer minimally invasive alternatives for patients with gallbladder cancer and certain types of liver tumors.
Our center of Orthopaedic Oncology is dedicated to providing the most efficient therapeutic modalities for treating bone and soft tissue sarcomas. Malignant bone tumors include osteosarcoma, Ewing’s sarcoma, chondrosarcoma, fibrosarcoma, metastatic carcinoma, myeloma, and other metastatic bone tumors.
Our center of Orthopaedic Oncology also offers innovative treatments such as limb sparing procedures, designed to save the limb while surgically removing the tumor.
Multidisciplinary Treatment Team
Our team consists of leading orthopaedic surgeons, as well as rehabilitation specialists. The multi-disciplinary approach at Anadolu Medical Center unites the efforts of various teams specialized in:
• Medical Oncology
• Radiation Oncology
• Pediatric Oncology
• Musculoskeletal Radiology
• Orthopaedic Surgery
These teams coordinate and manage patient care at weekly meetings. In addition, our patients have access to:
• Clinical trial enrolment
• Psychosocial support
• Patient educators and resources
• Support groups
Comprehensive Patient Care
Our multidisciplinary team works together to provide a comprehensive evaluation and determine the best course of treatment available. Children with life or limb-threatening tumors from all over Turkey are referred to the Orthopaedic Oncology Department at Anadolu Medical Center. Our physicians have extensive experience with rare and challenging forms of osteosarcoma that require special surgical procedures such as limb sparing surgery and rotationplasty.
At the Department of Gynaecology and Oncology, we are capable of treating all types of gynaecologic malignancies such as cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, vulvar cancer, vaginal cancer and pregnancy related trophoblastic tumors.
Laparoscopic surgery is preferred for early stage endometrial and cervical carcinoma because of the shorter recovery period and reduced postoperative pain. Laparoscopic operations of gynaecologic malignancies are performed at high uncompromising standards.
During surgery, there is an attending pathologist for obtaining on-the-spot frozen section diagnosis. Thanks to our advanced technological infrastructure, all pre-operative radiological images can be accessed by the surgeon and radiologist throughout the operation.
Postoperative treatment is decided on at regular cancer treatment council meetings, attended by our colleagues from different specialties, including radiation oncology, medical oncology, radiology, and pathology.
Ear Nose Throat Oncology
At our Ear, Nose & Throat Department we surgically treat benign and malign tumors in the head-neck region. Surgery for laryngeal carcinomas is one of the most commonly done procedures at our ENT department. Those include a wide range of oncologic surgeries such as microlaryngeal – endoscopic organ preservation surgery for early stage glottic carcinomas of the larynx and other techniques such as partial or total laryngectomy with or without neck dissection for extensive malignancies of the larynx. The department works in close collaboration with other departments for several types of skull base tumors such as glomus jugulare, acoustic tumors, or temporal bone carcinomas. We are capable of operating difficult-to-access tumors with navigational systems. Tumors of the salivary gland, especially parotid tumors are resected under intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.
Tumors of the paranasal sinus can be treated with less functional loss by virtue of an experienced surgical team and modern endoscopic equipment. Our surgical team has considerable experience in oncologic surgery not only for primary resections but also for complex reconstructive interventions.
The number of cancer patients is increasing around the world and approximately 20-25% of cancer patients have brain or spine metastases. The Department of Neurosurgery diagnoses and treats such cases.
The Department of Neurosurgery at Anadolu Medical Center also treats all types of neurologic cancers. Nervous system tumors we treat include:
• Brain tumors • Spine tumors • Peripheral nerve tumors • Spinal cord tumors
Benign brain tumors include pituitary adenomas, acoustic neurinomas and meningiomas. Malignant tumors that most commonly require surgery are gliomas or metastatic lesions. Spinal cord tumors are mostly metastatic tumors. Metastases in the spinal cord cause severe pain.. Rapid intervention of peripheral nerve and spinal cord tumors is key to maintaining quality of life in patients.
• CyberKnife Radiosurgery
• Digital Angiography
• Advanced MRI and CT
• Stereotactic Frameless Biopsy
• Video-EEG Monitoring
• Brain Mapping
With difficult to access brain tumors, we use neuronavigation to minimize the damage of healthy brain tissue. These technologies help the surgeon find deeply located, small tumors while using a tiny incision. Postoperative patient comfort is much better in those cases. We also use navigation assisted biopsies which helps us diagnose unidentified lesions. CyberKnife Radiosurgery is considered irreplaceable in the treatment of some tumors. In addition, Video-EEG monitoring and brain-mapping help us with localizing tumors.
Diagnosis and treatment of tumors
The management of brain and spine tumors requires a comprehensive and multidiciplinary approach.
At Anadolu Medical Center such patients are handled with the cooperation of the departments of:
• Medical Oncology • Radiation Oncology • Neuroradiology • Neuropathology
We have the equipment, technology and experience necessary to provide first class care of patients with brain and spinal tumors.
A multidisciplinary approach is also crucial in the treatment of urological system related cancers. In addition to kidney and testicle cancer our experienced urology surgery team performs complicated urological oncology surgeries.
At Anadolu Medical Center we successfully treat melanoma, a common type of skin cancer.
