What is ozone?

A Latin word, “ozone” means "smelling". As we know it, ozone is a gas which is formed by conversion of O2 to O3 by UVB rays in the upper layers of atmosphere. It is a heavy gas and has a unique smell. Ozone was first defined in late 1800s by Christian Friedrich Schönbein, a German Chemist. Ozone is used for surface cleaning, water cleaning, sanitation and kills viruses and bacteria. Ozone cannot be taken by inhalation because it is toxic if inhaled. It can only be applied as a cream which is produced with olive oil. If mixed with other oils, it flames up. Or it may directly be injected into a muscle or a joint. There is also another method called “major hemotherapy". In this method, the patient's blood is transferred to a vacuum bottle where it is enriched with ozone and administered back to the patient. Also, there are treatment methods called "bag therapy" to treat foot lesions called "diabetic foot” and extremity lesions, which are applied by keeping the extremity in a special ozone-oxygen mixture.

What are the effects of ozone?

Ozone has primarily three effects: It invokes local healing factors like wound healing, tissue repair and keeping the tissue alive. There are interleukin 1 and interleukin 2 substances which we can describe as SMS sent by a cell infected by a virus to the adjacent cells. By secreting these substances, it enables overnight healing in diseases like genital herpes, oral herpes, and zoster. First and foremost, it can normalize the number of ATPs which we call mitochondria and which cannot be produced due to insufficient oxygen in the powerhouse of the cell, i.e. basic energy molecules of the body.

People living indoors live with low oxygen. This is one of the reasons of chronic tiredness. In other words, we work with poor fuel. Ozone is as good for your body as when your doorbell is rung and a man comes with a big bag full of dollars and leaves it on the table. It tidies up and repairs the body.

Oxygen insufficiency causes release of free radicals in the cells. These free radicals, just like cannon balls destroy cell walls, DNAs and cause devastation in the cells. Ozone captures free radicals, and cell ageing is significantly slows down and normalizes.

What is ozone treatment good for?

Ozone treatment is used in non-healing lesions, diabetic feet, circulation problems, chronic tiredness, immune system disorders, and severe courses of viral diseases like herpes, zoster, and hepatitis. In such cases, it is possible to use ozone in combination of several methods. With a method called major hemotherapy, the patient’s blood is collected, mixed with ozone, and administered back to the patient. There is also an externally applied method in which the patient’s foot, arm, or leg is put inside a bag and kept under ozone with a pressure slightly above the atmospheric pressure. There are intravaginal and intrarectal pomades. It can also be used for non-healing vaginal fungal infections, Crohn’s disease and applied to the rectum in case of colitis.

Ozone is the best investment that a person can make for him/herself. Of course it is not a miracle. It is a specialty of complementary medicine which has been studied for about 100-150 years and with only a few aspects unknown.

Ozone therapy in patients with diabetes

Hemoglobin a1c is a three-month average value that we use to monitor diabetes. When patients with diabetes consult their primary doctors and apply this therapy, a significant regression occurs in such value. Ozone is sometimes a treatment in its own right, and sometimes a complementary treatment. It is organized jointly by the patient and doctor. In some cases, there are treatment methods which can be applied once every three days, and sometimes every day, and sometimes once every four days. In this treatment method, dose, sessions and frequency of sessions are determined specifically for the person.

Since which age can ozone therapy be used?

It can be used in adults over 21. There is no age limitation for treatment. It is even better in advanced ages as it has a very positive effect on the person’s energy, cognitive activities and cognitive level.

Can ozone therapy be used as a measure in the diseases mentioned?

Yes it can. There is an annual ozone dose for every person according to his/her weight. Accordingly, you can take a certain number of sessions. By applying a treatment of 8-10 sessions, you can keep the person quite vigilant with repeat doses once a month or once every two months. As a result, it may be applied to make the patient feel energetic and vigilant.

How many sessions does ozone therapy take?

It must take at least 6 sessions. It is because there are calculated doses. Just like an antibiotic, taking ozone only a day will not be useful. To be beneficial, it should be taken in minimum 6 – 8 sessions. For some diseases, 25 sessions may be applied. It is completely a personal therapy.

Can you give information about recovery rates of ozone therapy?

There are several scientific studies and cases in which biochemical and visual, i.e. organic changes are described. For example, genital herpes is a common problem in our society. Pains that occur after genital herpes are reduced at rates up to 70 percent in 36-48 hours after initial therapy. After ozone therapy in diabetic foot, healing rate is observed to increase 42 percent in one week. It can also be used in burn injury treatment. In 2nd and 3rd degree burns, significant recovery is observed after the 4th week.
