Albanian businessman hardly escaped death due to hernia operation, He was saved in Turkey

Amarildo’s organs failed subsequent to hernia operation in Albania and he was told that his ‘survival ratio was 1 percent.’ The businessman who was brought to Turkey by air-ambulance in an unconscious state regained his health, thanks to Turkish doctors.

Businessman Amarildo C. (49), a resident in the Albanian capital Tirana and father of two, was at the point of death as his intestines were punctured at 6 different points during hernia operation. Due to infection spread to his body, his organs started to fail.

They said “There is nothing else to do” and no hospital accepted him to complete his treatment. The patient’s blood values were rapidly deteriorating and Albanian doctors were saying that his “survival ratio was 1 percent”, but he was brought to Turkey by air-ambulance 6 months ago upon the suggestions of his friends.

The businessman was hospitalized in intensive care unit in an unconscious state and underwent 5 operations. The operations were conducted by General Surgeons Prof. Metin Çakmakçı and Dr. Ayhan Erdemir from Anadolu Medical Center, and the patient regained his health with the contributions of Aesthetic & Plastic Surgeon Prof. Haluk Duman, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Prof. Semih Akı and Intensive Care Unit team.

Now visiting Turkey for routine check-ups, Amarildo said “The doctors who said ‘he is going to die’ came to my home to visit me in Albania. They could not believe that I survived. ‘How come?’ they said. Nobody believes that I could survive. My wife and family supported me greatly in this process. I thank them all. I am happy for I came back to life. I am grateful to the doctors to whom I owe this life.” He was unable to hold his tears while telling what he had experienced.

“We said ‘You are going to walk out of here when discharged’”

Prof. Metin Çakmakçı (General Surgeon at Anadolu Health Center): Kidney functions of the patient were regulated, his lungs were supported to eliminate respiration problems, and intervention was made to his intestines since the bacteria within them spread to his blood. In fact, we started a kind of war. The tissues on the abdominal wall of the patient had lost their vigor, so we made interventions for this region also and the tissues bounced back in due course. We treated the intestines. These were risky practices since the body resistance and immunity of the patient were weak. However, the result turned out to be positive. We are quite happy.

Operating surgeon Dr. Ayhan Erdemir at Anadolu Medical Center: When the patient was brought, we told him “You are going to walk out of here when you will be discharged.” It happened, indeed. His condition is really good now. We are really happy.
