    Generally speaking, chemotherapy is the treatment of tumors with chemicals. Surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are fundamental elements of tumor treatment. Chemotherapy is administered in accordance with the type of tumor and patient's characteristics.

    For what purposes is chemotherapy used?

     

    • To achieve full recovery of the patient
    • To prevent tumor proliferation
    • To stop or slow down tumor growth
    • To eliminate tumor related symptoms

    What types of medical treatment are applied?

    Medications are administered in different ways. While some of them are chemotherapeutic medications (cytotoxic) designed to destroy tumor cells, others inhibit tumor development and proliferation (targeting agents, cytostatics). Yet another group of medications include hormones and supportive care.

     

    When is chemotherapy used?

     

    Chemotherapy is the only treatment method for certain types of tumors. Some tumors require successive or simultaneous use of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, while others may require chemotherapy before or after surgery. The duration and frequency of chemotherapy depends entirely on the chemotherapy programme selected specifically for the patient’s condition.

Due to the spread of the Coronavirus worldwide and the first confirmed case of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease in Turkey, the executive team of the Anadolu Medical Center has taken preventive measures to protect the patients and their relatives.
